Covenant Life Church is built around loving Jesus Christ and expressing His love to others.
We are a diverse group - young and old, single and married, families with kids and others with none, different backgrounds and cultures, all blended together into a big spiritual family - on a shared journey: to discover and live out God's purpose.
Together, we are committed to personal discipleship and fostering a transformative environment where anyone can be helped every step of the way to connect with Jesus, emulate His life, and actively engage in His work.
We want to help individuals and families because we are passionate about guiding them toward a life of spiritual significance through continued personal discipleship and community engagement.
We focus on this because it is a key that bridges the gap between the desire for growth and the means to achieve it, creating a clear path for our people to live out their faith in impactful ways.
WE hold to the historical faith, to which followers of Jesus Christ have committed themselves throughout history. Our beliefs are clearly communicated in the Apostles Creed, which in its earliest form, dates back to around 140 AD:
"I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen."
This Apostles Creed, and other creeds which followed, give voice to our faith in Jesus Christ and join us to those who have followed Him throughout history. It transcends any affiliations with a denomination, provides a summary of what we hold dear and helps us realize that as believers in Jesus, we are all part of His universal church.
We believe God is a covenant-making and a covenant-keeping God. The Hebrew word “chesed,” is often translated “loving kindness,” and is the highest level of relational devotion that can exist. In Christ, God has made a New Covenant or promise to us that He will forgive sin and restore fellowship with those whose hearts are turned toward Him. Therefore, we are compelled to walk in an ever-deepening, devoted relationship with Him and with one another while continually extending our hands to those who do not yet know Him.
We believe Jesus’ primary message is His Kingdom. We see the Kingdom of God as Heaven’s government or rule being carried out on Earth in each of our lives.
We believe God has given us the gift of the Holy Spirit through which we are born again into a life in the Spirit, lived out moment-by-moment in dependence upon the Holy Spirit’s direction, conviction and power. We believe the miraculous power seen in Jesus’ life and ministry in the Gospels and in the Book of Acts is fully available to us today. We are committed to helping one another grow into this new way of life while going out in the power of the Holy Spirit to invite others to do the same.
We believe God alone is the authority in all things - to the degree we are submitted to God's authority, we can exercise God's authority to bless, and to wage spiritual warfare and intercession on Earth. We believe God raises up and uses leaders to serve and guide others into spiritual growth and His purposes.
We believe that Jesus has called us to be His disciples and to work together - teaming up to make disciples within our local community and across the world. As disciples, we are committed to being lifelong learners, following Jesus in response to His Word, His voice and His ways into His Kingdom rule being established in our lives.
Our church has a unique and historic calling to reach the next generation and to help them grow into meeting, following and loving Jesus. We also have a rich heritage of deep friendships and growth as a spiritual family across generational lines. We are committed to doing everything possible to continually care for every person God would bring us, from the newest-born baby to our oldest members and to see them grow into loving Jesus and loving one another wholeheartedly.
We believe God is a “sending” God: As Father sent the Son and Father and Son sent the Holy Spirit, so the Holy Spirit sends the Church into the world with the Gospel or “good news” of the Kingdom of God. We are all in - His Mission being the central axis for our lives and our relationships as we love one another, love our neighbors and love our city. We are committed to looking for God’s activity in our community as the place to begin our missional engagement as individuals, as families and together as a spiritual family. Our hope is to continually develop unique, Spirit-led, Spirit-gifted leaders who will lead us into creative ways of seeing His love and power transform our communities, one relationship at a time.
